Exciting Renovations !

Exciting things are happening here at Right Off The Batt Pottery – WORLD HEADQUARTERS !
First, we’ve beaten a huge-big hole from our original location through to next door, which allows us to really begin getting down to business with moving the Classroom Space out of the Production Area. I knocked a 4 1/2 foot X 7 foot hole through during the weekend and now all that’s left is to get our friend and Drywall Guy Claude Cornish in to seam-fill it all. Along with this are a number of cabinets that we’ve built and installed… a couple in the bathroom for storage / hiding spots, a few in the soon-to-be-christened Classroom for student forms, and a few in the production area for production form and tool storage.
We’re all set to receive our new kiln and slab roller from Tuckers Pottery Supply in Richmond Hill, Ontario later on this week! Yup, we’ve decided to invest in a third kiln but this time it’s a big 16.5 cu ft beast that should increase our production capacity by 40 – 60 % when all the dust settles. On top of that, we’ll also take delivery of a new 40″ electric ( !!! ) Bailey Slab Roller that will live on the production side as well. This new slab roller – that will spoil us rotten – will allow us to move the 30″ Northstar unit over to the Classroom, and will of course also allow us to expand our production capacity as well.
I suppose I better mention our brush with fame and fortune while I’m at it too… Dave Sigsworth from Eastlink TV came by a few weeks ago and shot a heap of footage including some interviews, then did a great job of putting it all together to air on Eastlink Magazine a couple weeks ago. I think I’ll be able to post it on YouTube soon enough. More exciting stuff !
So of course with all this hub-bub comes, well, more hub-bub… but fear not ROTB Fans – and yes, the numbers are growing
– we are still running our Play in Clay Experiential Workshops during the renovations (in fact, Elly is teaching one while I write this post) so don’t be shy.
Cheers !

Nice writing. You are on my RSS reader now so I can read more from you down the road.
