Asheville North Carolina – Day 1
Mar 23rd, 2010 by Darryl Lentz
Here we are in Asheville NC. Man what a beautiful place. Staying at The Grand Bohemian and boys is it ever snazzy. A FANTASTIC supper last night was at The Corner Kitchen in Biltmore Village where we learned about not only the Vanderbilt legacy that made this… area possible but also Becky Anderson filled us all in how Handmade in America came to be. We’re headed into the mountains today on The High Country Ramble Trail to visit a resurrected apple orchard to see how they do things. Next will be a trip to Spruce Pine for lunch at The Knife and Fork where we’ll hear from a couple folks mainly focused on rural revitalization. Off the Bakersville for a tour and presentation on how this small town ressurected itself after a flood a few years ago. After that it’s off to Penland for a school tour then a visit to The Barking Spider Pottery before heading back to asheville for supper, another presentation and finally bed.
A very busy schedule but we’re already learning. Oh and we met a couple new friends yesterday at JS Pottery outside of Charlotte. Thanks to Jack & Grace for the great hospitality. Check out JS Pottery for their site and a look at some really great work along with interesting bios.
More tomorrow !
