About Cindy & Darryl:

Cindy became interested in clay in the mid 90’s when her and a friend took a beginner’s course offered by the Deep River Potters’ Guild in the Ottawa Valley. Cindy was immediately hooked and started to learn as much as possible through practical experience and attending workshops offered by other potters.
When Cindy & Darryl moved to Kingston in 2000, she joined the CFB Kingston Pottery Club and started developing her work further. She began taking part in the Town and Country Studio Tour, the Interconnected Studio Tour and local artisan shows in the Kingston area.
In the meantime, Darryl was content rebuilding his Harley until one trip to their home on Prince Edward Island changed their future plans. They spoke with the PEI Business Development folks and discovered there could be a place in the studio for Darryl. On the way back to Ontario, Darryl started asking how he could help out with chores such as wedging, cleaning, and general “Helper Duties”. The helper role only lasted a little while though as he started getting curious about tile work and eventually wheel work.
Fast-forward to the present and you find Cindy trimming Darryl’s work, him glazing hers, and the two generally playing off each other’s creative energies to the point where they even have a hard time remembering who made what!
Though they have never had much opportunity for formal training, they have attended many workshops both together and separately at places such as the Kingston Potters’ Guild, a week-long intense throwing workshop at Robert Tetu’s Beechwood Pottery, Canadore College, and St Lawrence College. They have also received many helpful tips and advice from several accomplished potters (in no particular order): |
